Matthew R. Shupp
Matthew R. Shupp, Ed.D., NCC, BH-TMH, ACS, LPC (PA), LCPC (MD), is a Professor of Counselor Education at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. Before entering the professoriate, Shupp worked professionally in student affairs, and his teaching and scholarship continue to bridge student affairs practice, counseling, supervision, leadership, and organizational culture.
Shupp is a Fulbright Specialist whose international work has focused on strengthening counseling and student support systems within higher education. As a Fulbright Specialist at Suez Canal University in Egypt, he collaborated with university leaders, faculty, staff, and students to support the development and sustainability of the university’s Psychological Counseling Unit. His work included consultation, training, and dialogue around counseling practice, supervision, student well-being, culturally responsive approaches to mental health, and reducing stigma associated with seeking psychological support.
Across his teaching, scholarship, clinical practice, and professional training, Shupp is particularly interested in the intersection of human development and organizational life—how supervision, leadership, communication, trauma-informed practice, and organizational culture influence the experiences of students and the professionals who support them. Drawing upon his backgrounds in both student affairs and counselor education, he brings a practical, relational approach to helping professionals navigate complex conversations, strengthen supervisory relationships, and create healthier and more inclusive educational environments.
He is the co-author of Inclusive Supervision in Student Affairs: A Model for Professional Practice.
